Nowadays, Pokemon travel on your journey to becoming the best there ever was has evolved. It used to be your feet and a bike. Now, you you can ride on Pokemon in your party as a travel option. Plus, there are built in game mechanics that are basically Pokemon taxi service. The Gala region has their Flying Taxi that utilize Corviknights to fly you from place to place. Well, that got me thinkin Theorists. Did Pokemon get flying RIGHT? Could a Corviknight, or any flying type, actually carry passengers or even THEMSELF? It's time to find out!

Please explain how Yvetal even uses it’s 3rd wing…

    9. Willyscoiote

Well, I'm not a physicist, but if by chance the atmosphere in the Pokemon world were to be denser than the atmosphere from earth wouldn't those pokemon be able to fly?

    12. Pizzalover524

I think the explanation is that the world of Pokémon has a smaller force of gravity

    13. Kyra McCone

      We need the doduo episode

    14. Natsume-Hime

The massive glaring flaw is that because of Pokemon typing... Magic legitimately exists in this universe. You even proved it with Gyrados, Rayquaza, and other Pokemon that can fly and levitate with no apparent means of doing so. The best examples of this are elemental powers and arcane powers like Fairy and Dragon type energy. Never mind things like animate rocks and steel beings that are also pretty dang sentient. Sure they try to apply scientific babble to explain it, but that's only because magic exists in the Pokemon universe and thus can be scientifically studied. So unfortunately Matpat and team, ya done an oopsie by ignoring that, which busts your own theory.

    15. vampjoseph11

"Raspy voiced preteen" We all know Ash had a 10 pack a day smoking and bourbon addiciton. That's why his voice is messed up.

    16. Hayden Caldwell

wait mat i have a quetsion does the type of wing change if it can fly or not like charzard have different wing not made of feathers

    17. live life

what if the gravity of the universe if different as compared to ours

i trust this man but i dont believe that Charizard IS HEAVIER THAN A 7'3 METAL BIRD WITH A HUGE WINGSPAN

    27. leopard gecko rosie

I think they can fly from the gravity on pokemons earth

    28. Insert name here

      😂 im 12 and weigh 100 pounds not 81

    29. Bric Balmforth

Heya MatPat, have you ever heard of the old Rankin-Bass movie The Flight of Dragons? It has some pretty interesting explanations into dragon flight and fire breath. TL;DR the dragons in that show can produce hydrogen and expand their body like a blimp, thus providing lift for an extremely massive animal. Charizard has a lot of dragon characteristics, so maybe it could do something similar.

    30. DarkFrozenDepths

Well, the "Let's go!" installments did have most of the HM moves done by actual things and not pokemon... Like surfing on a literal surfboard and using some balloons to fly.

    31. Dr Acula to you

Or maybe Pokemon strength is ridiculous considering many Pokemon can learn the move strength and likely flap way harder than a real bird ever could meaning they get more ait push

    32. Т1000 Youtube

7:35 simply put: to have more stuff doing something, you need to have more stuff that isn't doing that to support the stuff that does that, and more stuff to make the stuff that supports the stuff work.

    33. Sharon Riley

This video could be wrong because the answers for the pokemon are just sized up birds from OUR WORLD pokemon are mystical creatures that can breath fire or shape the terrain how they want it but matt was comparing them to over sized birds so this theory is kind of off

    34. luigigamer333

I think you're forgetting the "L" in Fletchling's name there MatPat!

    39. Super “DThunder” Jedi420

Kinda makes you think about what hoot hoot would look like if it didn't eat so much 😅

    46. Bigman101111111

Hoot hoot had too many hooters wings. That’s the secret to his weight.

    47. Coyote8004

The largest species of eagle was the Haas Eagle. 15ft wingspan.

    48. Abigail E

the wedge tailed eagle is a falconry bird as well you can see the jesses on his legs

    49. Steve F

Gravity is different in the Pokémon world. That’s why you can jump off cliffs and be okay.

    50. Viktor Ignatov

The wideo is funny and the explanation for the real world is on point. But in a world where there is a 2 and a half foot tall rat in your backyard the explanation is that physics in the Pokemon world work differently then physics in our world

    51. GAMER BOY

      Ant man all over again

    52. j s

dragonite not being able to fly wasnt all that surprising to me i mean look at those wings they look like cosplay props LMAO

    53. Zach Williams

This title is a lie This theory is pharse After all, ask the bee Despite human laws of aviation it still flies without care

    54. Bubz4420

It's because anime and video game logic

    55. louie beni

But bees are a thing so they could fly

    56. Lottie Searle

3:40 So... What I'm hearing is, you want to know... What is the carrying of an unladen swallow!?

    57. Little blue Flame

      Maybe here world is different

    58. Little blue Flame

I grew up near bald eagles I guess I am lucky

    59. Brandon Foley

What about their gravity? Superman could jump super high because of lower gravity, astronauts can jump higher, so maybe there?

    60. criptamint lance

      bees cant fly by logic

    61. Abdullah Toor (ArchaeoToor)

We have airplanes so steel type is an expected flying type.

    68. Power ON Productions

      Woober was a missed opportunity

    69. 201thorn

Lugia can't fly excuse me but, Lugia has always been the pokemon that never obeys the law of physics .Its pokedex entry in Ruby/Sapphire/emerald literally says Lugia's wings pack devastating power - a light fluttering of its wings can blow apart regular houses. As a result, this Pokémon chooses to live out of sight deep under the sea. Its entry in Diamond/pearl/ platinum It sleeps in a deep-sea trench. If it flaps its wings, it is said to cause a 40-day storm. The amount that Lugia can generate should rip its wing from its socket.

    70. Timothy Crowley

Who has seen Charizard and thought, "Huh. that Pokémon looks really aerodynamic. It's absolutely plausible that it's wings can support both it's own weight AND that of a 10-year-old-kid"?

    71. Tyler Sieczkowski

how where pterodactyls able to fly?

    72. kiefer spark

Is the pokemon world canonically on earth? If not then the air density may be different. If the air was more dense, then more pokemon could fly, also the weight ratio would change, because the weight in the pokedex, would be the weight of them on their planet. So how large would the planet have to be so that all flying pokemon in the pokedex could fly?

    73. Mark van Esch

Hoothoot is a burrowing owl, duh.

    74. Wendy Pengelly Goldman

I just scrolled through every comment to find my old comment...... it’s gone....🙁😞😣😖

    75. 1 2

maybe the gravitation is higher something like 2g that would make flying mutch easyer...the air would be more like a fluid (witch it already kind of is...) hope that makes sens to you

    76. jj nix

If you look at the dex and compare you realize people in the pokemon world are much smaller than in ours and it seems weight doesn't equate either

    77. TimeDipper

Perhaps the world of Pokemon has a different law of gravity, but that’s just a theory.

    78. Zach Elrod

Fun Fact: I got the Geico Rocket League Ad before the video started. Just to see another Geico ad (in the form of the sponsor)

      1. FlamingXZ

        OMG same!

    79. DistortedChrist

But we don't want to talk about bees. Physics says they shouldn't be able to fly.

    80. Noel Villanueva

Brother: I had a dream where I was the president! Sister: I had a dream where I was a ninja! My dreams: 13:00

    81. Michael “mayhem” Randol

It’s simple a two ounce bird can’t carry a one pound coconut!

    82. Kusumasai Pedireddy

      Skrmory is a steel type

    83. jonny welby

You missed one logic THE LOGIC OF ANIME!!

    84. Fabled Stone

but shouldn't u have to double the height of the wing as well to reach 8 times the volume? there's something off u only have to calc 4 times the weight

    85. redlove108

This episode reminds me of the Bumble bee meme. How all the natural laws of aerodynamics says it can't fly, yet some how it can. MatPatt! You need to reconsider what kind of thrust and power they must swing with their wings to then be able to fly.

    86. thegamer fromjuipiter

Someone wanna tell me why I’m wrong about something? If the thing just flaps it’s wings faster doesn’t it make more lift?

    87. Red Archer

sure apply earth logic to an orange non dragon whose fire breath can melt mountains.

    88. Dariusz Piwowarczyk

maybe the pokemon world is alot smaller and the gravity is also smaller. Things could fly easier.

    89. hakdoey nakdiey

"and then we'll mention the incredible GIRTH of Hoothoot" - MatPat while writing this episode

    90. Maverick Studios

Random question/thought in a similar vein to this video: What about the Loftwing from LoZ: Skyward sword? Would they be able to fly with a single rider? I've been trying to figure it out myself, but keep getting tied up with the math.

    91. Sergeant Squirrel- Clash of Clans (BrockrocksGaming)

What if the air is less dense and then have less air resistance? Does the world of Pokémon have the same atmosphere as earth?

    92. don rob777

Charizards likely have an extremely high internal body temperature is probably making it capable of flying when it wants to

    93. TJ Hatch

Perhaps the Pokemon world has a thicker atmosphere, resulting in higher air pressure that allows you to generate more lift for your wingspan? I'm not super educated in aerodynamics but it seems like the most likely conclusion

    94. Team D. S. Z.

They aren't pidgey clones they are the regional birds

    95. Vaughn Alexander

My trusty Bird Jesus Pidgeot gets me around

    96. Imaginternet Gaming

Wait a second when matpat listed the pokémons that can't fly Vullaby wasn't there and in its dex entries its really said it can't fly with tiny wing

    97. Odd_Magus

well can't most of these creatures also put out hurricane force winds easily

    98. Bengals OAL (BengalsOAL)

But think about the anime where the pokemon are put of there pokeball just vibing, now think of how crazy durable and strong they are in battle. Remember you have to command the pokemon to use the move fly witch activities the strong versions witch allows them to carry all that extra weight.

    99. Josh Bee

We would need to know what the gravity is on the pokemon planet. Also we would need to know more about the atmosphere. We are assuming that both are exactly the same as our Earth. The planets magnetic field would need to be understood as well. Not to mention the fact that pokemon seem to utilize "the force" or magicks.

    100. daa xing

The brown dead nationally sack because wolf wessely copy amidst a beautiful dancer. grateful gratis, horrible mallet
