Then is it possible that just like computer viruses, real viruses are also created? By some extraterrestrial species who is altering every species' dna on different planet with their own dna and those whose physical immunity denies it fall sick.. Were we evolved by natural selection or someone manipulated our genes to evolve this way?

    6. Azerty2978 azerty

If viruses are living bodies? Yes, I think so. I like to think that they appeared on Earth, but separately from the first cells... another evolution branch that used the other to survive... Maybe that's totally messed up (which could totally be). Edit : It is not really a serious theory just a random thought that came of mu mind that's not serious business

can we stop for a second and discuss about how a bacteriophage basically rapes a bacteria? the difference is that I personally think they deserve it

When I was younger I remember my friend coming over to show me and my other buddy his pokemon had pokerus, I was very skeptical on it even existing because it sounded like b.s.and I've been playing since gen 1. Anyways I took a look at his pokemon and I was shocked so I asked him how did he get it and where he was at that time to see if I could get it but he insisted that it was just luck and location had nothing to do with it but I went over to the same place which was victory road (ruby version) and started battling random pokemon and ended up fighting a loudred after the battle I went to the nearest pokemon center and in my disbelief the nurse said my pokemon has it!!! I was so estatic what is the likely hood that 2 people in the same room getting pokerus within an hour of each other and mind you this was back in the gba days and me and my friends didn't have a link cable so there's no way I got it from him. I asked my third friend to go to the same area I was just to see if he got it but unfortunately he wasn't so lucky .even to this day I'm still skeptical on it being a luck thing.

My pokemon got it in the same day when I got to shinies in less then 3 minutes (today at the time I’m writing this)

    17. MythicalCookies

All of my pokemon has pokerus......... Yet I've never seen a shiny pokemon....

    18. Safe

After like 2 years of not opening my DS lite in Summer of 2020 I got my pokemon in Platinum infected by a pokerus, only to find out that the wild pokemon that infected my pokemon was a chansey with a pokerus that I caught. It's nuts.

    19. Lucky Arceus

Are…are pokerus viruses also Pokémon themselves? If this does happen in the future, I’m calling poison/psychic type.

    20. Moadot720

I had no idea Pokerus was so rare - I’ve had it randomly (especially in like gen 3 games) many times, way more often than I’ve ever found a shiny 🤔

    28. Val Broderick

Can I just point out that to what Austin was talking about whether or not viruses are "alive", many of the things there are not qualifyers. Several of these are just checking whether or not something is similar to other living things, not whether something is "alive" or not. We can get rid of the 1st, 4th, and 5th, at the very least.

Here's a theory: PokéRus was designed by SilphCo. prior to the events of GSC.

    50. AetheralMeowstic

      14:08 _Jiggly Bu_

    51. AetheralMeowstic

      So, PokéRus is artificial?

    52. AetheralMeowstic

Again with the Kanto Plurals. The singular and plural forms of a Pokémon's name are identical. Changing the spelling to pluralize the name was a localization error from the first few episodes of Season 1 of the anime. It was corrected in later episodes soon after it was discovered. If I've said it once, I've said it a million times: in terms of pluralization, the closest English word to a Pokémon's name would be _deer,_ as its singular and plural are identical under all circumstances. Here's an easy rule to remember when pluralizing the name of a Pokémon: _The plural of Pokémon name X is always X. No spelling changes, no pronunciation changes, no exceptions._

    53. AetheralMeowstic

It's not a coma, it's just briefly unconscious. It's assumed that either it recovers shortly after the battle or an area Pokémon Ranger heals it.

    54. AetheralMeowstic

Honestly, when people say they "killed" a wild Pokémon, it annoys me to no end. Pokémon are only killed in certain cutscenes of the dark story for _Pokémon Insurgence,_ a scene where the protagonist rips off the head of a Nuclear-Type (I wish I was kidding) in the fan-made _Pokémon Uranium_ fanfiction _Adventures in Tandor,_ and the incomplete and abandoned fanfiction _Game of Champions._

    55. AetheralMeowstic

The vitamins are liquid, not pills.

    56. AetheralMeowstic

I like to make my Pokémon blindingly fast. More specifically, with the Snivy line, I like to combine blistering Speed (taking advantage of its status as Unova's fastest starter) with mind-blowing Special Attack and go with moves like SolarBeam, Giga Drain, Energy Ball, and Leaf Storm, as well as getting it to hold a Miracle Seed to ramp things up even further.

    57. AetheralMeowstic

The name "Yamask" has the stress on the first syllable, not the second. Otherwise, the pronunciation was pretty good.

    58. AetheralMeowstic

I personally don't support Sword/Shield. As far as I'm concerned, Gen VII was the last generation that GAME FREAK truly cared about the fans.

    59. planet maker 347

ive got a good one, explain how much energy the slayers crucible outputs(its hotter than planck temperature and none of that heat is irradiated into the environment)in one second.

    60. its aaron

      where is matpat

I like your vids more than mattpat

    63. Justin Woods

I wish effort values actually worked like this, Austin usually you’re on point with you mechanics explanations, but this time you fell short my dude

    64. Nenad Vujakovic

if we can measure its energy output and it has a purpose we could call it life but by that we can call all radiation life or even light(photons and atoms and all the bits in them)....and why not?

    65. Nenad Vujakovic

i always thought that hyperbeam is plasma as i heats the surrounding air much more than fire and not laser....

    66. Nolan Stone (Dr. Basic)

EV training doesnt work the way they say it does. It is 4 EV = 1 stat. So 100 EV in attack would get you 25 attack.

    67. Tom Müller

      A minor mistake, 4 ev-poinst equals 1 Status point not 1 equals 1

    68. FranklinsMad400

      The Buneary scene😭😂

    69. InsaneInsomniac

well, odds are a hell of a thing...I've literally never knowingly encountered a shiny outside the story shinys (like red gyarados) but I've gotten pokerus on two different runs...technically speaking I may have encountered numerous shinys since original gen 1 is my most played (as a kid I only had pokemon yellow some mario rip off and the mario 6 golden coins one for gameboy, and I played pokemon the most) and I know you *can* get shinys in gen 1, but you wont actually know it unless you happen to catch them AND then later trade them to gen 2 where they'd have their shiny sprite actually look different, cause gen 1 graphics were way limited

    70. Tatsumi

      I hate EV

    71. Ace567

All the Pokémon players screaming because it actually takes 4 EVs to raise a stat by one

    72. Corpzia Cat

Let’s talk about the corona virus

    73. Jツ

Everyone knows that viruses are actually the modern remanents of the ancient von neumann probes that seeded all life in the universe eons ago. Jeeze Austin do you live under a rock or something? 🤣

    74. Elana youtube addict

I remember getting this on my piplup in pokemon pearl and freaked out in excitment. Never got a shiny in my life but got something better.

    75. BigCheesey 101

I wonder if there are tiny little cell sized Pokémon that would be sick

    76. Kapoh

no viruses are alien's trying to kill us all

    77. Samuel Brewer

When he said nothing natural, I immediately said amphetamines... why do I think this way?

Pokemon 2: How To Pokemon Virus Works

    84. Saikou

you didnt have to explain evs cuz i know how to train them just for me

    85. FidgetOrc

Viruses are not living. Like they are in PCs, they are just an injection of instructions into otherwise functioning systems.

    86. Naro

The chance of finding a shiny Pokémon was actually doubled in Gen VI. EV training is very much not as extreme as presented here. As at least one other has pointed out, it's not one-to-one; at level 100, a given stat gains one point for every _four_ EVs it has. A Pokémon can have up to 510 EVs _total_, and any given stat can have up to 252 EVs (255 prior to Gen VI) devoted to it. This means that, at level 100, you have 127 extra points, not 510, to distribute among your Pokémon's stats, with any given stat capping out at 63 extra points. Vitamins, also, are no longer capped at 100 EVs as of Gen VIII and can be used to maximize the relevant stat (provided, of course, that your Pokémon doesn't have too many EVs elsewhere). The Cofagrigus presented as a base example is impossibly weak. The numbers used are its minimum stats at level 100 (from Bulbapedia), which are calculated using zero EVs, zero IVs (the Pokémon's genetic disposition for each stat, essentially), and a hindering nature (if applicable; nature has no effect on HP). Any given nature will raise one stat by 10% and lower one stat by 10% (five natures, known as "neutral" natures, effectively raise and lower the same stat, canceling themselves out and changing nothing). Since a Pokémon can have only one nature, only one stat can be calculated with a hindering nature. A Cofagrigus with zero EVs, zero IVs, and a neutral nature would have stats more along the lines of 226 HP, 105 Attack, 295 Defense, 195 Special Attack, 215 Special Defense, and 65 Speed. The boosted Cofagrigus is also impossible, as it would need its Defense, Special Attack, and Special Defense all boosted by its nature in addition to having 252 EVs each. That Speed stat also requires at least 32 EVs.

    87. a bledsoe

Pretty sure it was introduced in mystery dungeon

    88. divineblood

The easiest way for me to get the pokerus is through wondertrade. Not sure if the trading system contributes to it. Within several trades I would get it and then I would spread to all my Pokémon. 🤔

    89. Zimvgig Uolivich

so this video was intentionally created during this era of pandemic???😂🤣

    90. Christian Petty

I learned something new today ev training is a thing and the pokevirus is a thing.

    91. Joseph Cantu

Ok so 1 minor detail. EV's do mostly work the way he described but not nearly as efficient. It takes 4 EV's to increase the stat by 1 and no stat can have more than I believe 252 EVs so you can only increase the stat by around 60. I know my math is slightly wrong but there is definitely no way you're increasing a stat by 500. It's 1/4 of that and has to be put into 2 stats

    92. Yan Mega

love the random habanera playing in the background

    93. Savannah Moran

doess this apply to pokemon go on the phone?

    94. Anton Masalev

i always thought that a virus is somewhat a bug of nature, but now i think they are more a corrupt program

    95. HeckinGracken

This makes me now want to see you delve into the lore about the "mold" in RE7 & RE8.

    96. Zeldaboy

My gf is a molecular biologist and I argue with her all the time about virus being alive. I really have nothing to back it up, I just say they are. My counter arguement though is that if they are not, then they are nano machines. Which since we have ancient dormant viruses inside our DNA then we are all cyborgs. Either way I am happy.

    97. Bennyb0y

      Gotta catch em all! Pokémon!

    98. ShadowDemonKatGaming

not alive in the sense that most of us understand it... the fact that they only have a limited viability for spreading through certain forms... like some virus can be spread through the air. in a sense the virus remains alive outside the body for a certain amount of time before it dies... so... in a way, yes they are alive, but they are not living.

    99. random Kisa

about the "viruses are alive or not" thing: they're aliven't

    100. Squishy Green

dang wen will we get a pandemic with a virus thats only helpful
